Pareekshana, our maiden duet production, involves five separate pieces set in the format of a margam - a traditional bharatanatyam repertoire. They were mostly composed by contemporary artists and chosen with an intent to experiment with music and choreography. The compositions’ melodies opened the possibilities of finding parallels and counterpoints in western classical music. A string orchestra added a rich and subtle layer to the musical experience, bringing in a refreshing tone.
When soloists share energies on stage as a duo, the experience is a fascinating journey in understanding and respecting each other’s artistic space and yet presenting moments of togetherness. Pareekshana marked the beginning of our artistic partnership as a duo and creating independent work that inspired us. It was a roller coaster of excitement, anxiety, discomfort and growth. It was an ardent learning process that made us test and push boundaries, manage doubts and fears, and develop deep conviction in ourselves and our efforts.
